Nike Mercurial Vapor 11 Review
One of the most iconic soccer cleats to ever hit the market, known for being lightweight, explosive, and thin. The Vapor 11 attracts the liking of Neymar Jr, Eden Hazard, Philippe Coutinho, and thousands of other players around the world.
In the Summer of 1998, during the World Cup, the first ever Nike Mercurial Vapor was worn. Today, many players still wear the Vapor for the same reason, its featherlight weight (167 grams), and it's strikingly thin upper. The latest iteration of the Vapor features a 'speed rib' upper, providing optimal grip and an anatomical soleplate, giving a close to the ball fit.
The upper on the Nike Mercurial Vapor 11 is made from a soft synthetic material, with almost no break in time required. The lines on the upper are called 'speed rib' texture, giving the ideal grip and support. The upper contributes to the barefoot sensation, by having a tight fit and a thin material. Padding has been brought to the minimum on the Vapor XI, allowing for a consistent touch, all around the boot.
Having a one-piece construction eliminates any overlapping materials, giving an absolute barefoot feel. The central lacing system on the Vapor 11 features a dual lace hole system, enhancing the secure fit by decreasing lace slippage. The Vapor 11 features an internal heel counter, a synthetic heel liner, and a decent amount of padding giving a good amount of comfort. In all, the Vapor XI has a thin and tight-fitting upper with no extra room providing a close to the ball sensation.
The reasonably flexible, and highly aggressive soleplate on the Vapor 11, is quite the innovation. Being made from a single layer of plastic that fits your sole anatomically, you actually feel closer to the ball. The 11 bladed, chevron-shaped studs provide a super aggressive traction seen on no other Vapor. The Vapor 11 is available in soft ground (SG), firm ground (FG), and artificial grass (AG). This soleplate is arguably the best soleplate currently on the market.
Concern: The narrow fit doesn't fit wide feet properly. The FG variation is not suitable for AG.
Recommended? Yes: With its unrivaled lightweight, extremely thin upper, and the exceptional amount of grip; the Vapor XI is an excellent cleat to look into. The fit is tight and close to the ball with no extra room, fitting a narrow foot perfectly. Having a speed rib upper gives you an unfair advantage against your opponent, with its surprising amount of grip and responsiveness. Join the many professionals and enthusiasts who wear the Vapor 11 on a day-to-day basis.
